Map of Knocklyon, South Dublin, with the M50 to the west and Tallaght Road to the North.

Knocklyon (pronounced knock-line) is a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. As a relatively new area independent of its neighbours Templeogue, Firhouse and Rathfarnham, it was not marked as a separate entity on maps until recently. Its postcode is Dublin 16.

It's population as of 2002 is (according to the CSO) 4327, a decrease of 6.5% from 1996.

The parish of Knocklyon was established in 1974 and placed under the patronage of St Colmcille. The church, primary school (consisting of both a junior and senior school to deal with large numbers, and one of the largest in Ireland) and community school all bear the name St Colmcille.

Knocklyon continues to grow in size with some residents of nearby Firhouse/Ballycullen now claiming citizenship.

A focal point for the local community is the local supermarket, a Superquinn. Another is Delaneys, the local public house. Famous residents include the Irish entertainer Twink, who lives in Idrone House next to the supermarket.

In the area maps of South Dublin the section from the top of Butterfield Avenue to Knocklyon Avenue(i.e area around Lower Knocklyon Road) seems to fall between Templeogue,Rathfarnham and Knocklyon.I have seen all three in addresses around there. What is the majority opinion ? Also is Knocklyon primarily a Catholic Parish designation? The Church of Ireland Parish is Rathfarnham.
